Pre-School Classroom Support Temporary Position (2025-2026)

Department: First School
Location: Annapolis, MD, MD

Part-Time, 10 months, Faculty Non-Exempt (Temporary - 2025-2026 academic year)

Key School is seeking part-time classroom support for our Pre-School program for the 2025-2026 academic year to work in partnership with a classroom teacher and assistant teacher with three and four year old students. The successful candidate will have previous experience in early childhood education, understand the developmental needs of young children and demonstrate genuine warmth and connection for others.

Reporting to the First School Division Head, the Pre-School Aide works collaboratively on the Pre-School team to provide an age-appropriate, culturally responsive program for three and four year old students. The aide works with the lead teacher to supervise students indoors and outdoors, implement the daily classroom plans and works with students individually and in small groups.

Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills are required. The aide must readily partner and communicate with the classroom teachers to support student progress in all domains - social/emotional, cognitive and physical development.

The aide reports to the First School on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am-1:45pm, a total of 17.25 hours per week. This position is guaranteed only for the 2025-2026 school year.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the supervision of three and four year old students across two classrooms
  • Actively engage with children in small groups during structured and unstructured classroom time
  • Respect children’s ideas, feelings, abilities, and differences
  • Collaborate with lead teachers to implement daily classroom activities
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor play
  • Attend and participate in specials classes
  • Complete classroom administrative tasks
  • Complete six Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits

Ideal Candidate:

  • Demonstrates cultural responsiveness in both classroom practice and interactions with students and colleagues
  • Flexible and able to accept schedule changes
  • Self-starter who is able to work with variety of constituencies

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of experience in an early childhood education setting
  • Maintain a current CPR/First Aid certification

Physical Requirements:

The demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

This position requires indoor and outdoor student supervision each day. The students go outside to play in most conditions, including light rain, snow and hot and cold temperatures. Candidates also need to be physically able to transition between sitting on the floor and child-sized chairs.

Some classes take place in other parts of the campus. The ability to move around a mid-size campus with uneven pavement and manage stairs is needed.

Compensation/Benefits:

This part-time position offers $24.54/hour. Health and other benefits are not available.
